About Us
The Autoimmune Neurology Research Group (FAN LAB) at the Department of NEUROFARBA, University of Florence, led by Professor Valentina Damato, promotes research in the field of translational neuroimmunology and precision medicine, focusing on antibody-mediated diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. Through clinical and basic science research, we are committed to improving diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of rare inflammatory neurological disorders. Our research range from improving antibody diagnostic tests, biomarker discovery, and studies on patho-immunological mechanisms, promoting a multidisciplinary approach and benefiting from prestigious national and international collaborations.
The conditions we study include:
• Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD)
• Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD)
• Autoimmune encephalitis
• Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes
• Checkpoint inhibitor-associated autoimmune disorders
• Myasthenia gravis and autoimmune myositis
Opportunities
We currently offer a range of projects suitable for Master students, PhD candidates, research fellows (both clinical and basic science), and postdoctoral researchers.
