Teaching and research activities aim to raise students’ awareness of the importance of considering gender differences in the manifestation and treatment of diseases, thus fostering clinical practice that is up-to-date, equitable, and respectful of all patients’ needs.
In addition, emphasis is placed on the relevance of “gender” in the design of clinical studies, in preclinical and clinical trials, in the interpretation of experimental results, and in the adequate understanding of the impact of gender pharmacology on the safety and efficacy of therapies and on quality of life.
In the field of research, the application of psychometric procedures makes it possible to verify measurement invariance with respect to the variable “sex,” thereby allowing fair comparisons between men and women, and to study gender differences and similarities in relation to psychological constructs.
A core aspect is training and outreach activities, carried out in collaboration with third-sector organizations, on issues of equity in rights and perinatal care.
