Sustainable Cities and Communities

Through its teaching and research activities, the Department encourages the understanding of human decision-making processes for the design of more sustainable environments and communities (for example, through nudging techniques); it provides the foundations for conscious consumption linked to knowledge of the origin of food products; it promotes sustainability in the pharmaceutical field, focusing on the conscious, ethical, and safe use of drugs and on the repurposing of molecules for new therapeutic purposes.

Teaching and research staff with clinical responsibilities are actively engaged in activities related to Health Technology Assessment, particularly in the areas of drugs and medical devices.

Third mission

As part of the third mission, the Department’s initiatives involve: proposing new therapeutic targets; patenting new molecules to foster industrial development; technological development in the field of testing/psychometrics; innovation in laboratory techniques; the development of innovative drugs; innovation in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria resistant to chemotherapy; collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises for the commercialization of functional foods and novel foods.
