The Organoid Laboratory is a departmental research infrastructure dedicated to the development of human-based in vitro and in silico models for the preclinical study of human diseases and the development of new drugs. It uses two-dimensional and three-dimensional cellular models derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), including spheroids, organoids and Organ-on-Chip systems, for applications in disease modelling, drug discovery and predictive toxicology. Its equipment includes a Maestro Edge MEA system for electrophysiological recordings and impedance analysis, a QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR system, a ChemiDoc MP imaging system, a cell culture hood and an incubator.

The Advanced Imaging, Functional and Molecular Assessment Laboratory is a departmental research infrastructure dedicated to image analysis and functional and molecular assessments. It is equipped with an Evident Spinning Disk High-Content confocal system, which can also be used to observe cultured cells and organoids and provides super-resolution imaging, three-dimensional analysis and artificial intelligence-based recognition of cellular structures. The laboratory also houses a Leica CM1860 cryostat for preparing sections of frozen tissue and an electrophysiology setup comprising a microscope, a dual-channel patch-clamp system, a micromanipulator, a puller and fluorescence imaging equipment.
