Research Doctorate in the Area of Drugs and Innovative Treatments

Course description and objectives

The general educational objectives of the Doctorate in the Area of Drugs and Innovative Treatments are aimed at preparing researchers who are experts in the field of drugs and health products with a view to possible insertion, once the qualification has been acquired, in both public and private work environments. .

The doctorate is organized in two curricula, "Pharmaceutical Sciences" and "Pharmacology, Toxicology and Innovative Treatments", which are coordinated with common courses that allow for an in-depth study of the problems inherent to drugs, from design, synthesis and analysis to the experimental definition of actions. pharmacological and therapeutic up to clinical pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology.

Each PhD student is supported by a Scientific Tutor and a Theoretical Tutor. The Scientific Tutor provides for the insertion of the PhD student in a Research Unit of the Department where he will carry out his research activity and will acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge and experimental methodologies necessary for the preparation of the Doctoral Thesis. The Theoretical Tutor agrees annually with the doctoral student on the training activity ..

Curriculum in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

The curriculum in Pharmaceutical Sciences is set up on an educational-scientific offer aimed at training experts and scholars in the sector by providing them with the multiple skills that must characterize highly specialized operators in the field, destined to be inserted in the research laboratories of the pharmaceutical industries, of academic institutes. and research institutions, in the field of design and synthesis of new drugs, the optimization of their formulation and purification of natural compounds, their characterization and quality control of both synthetic and natural molecules, both in the finished product and in biological media as well as in the study of bioactive metabolites from food and medicinal plants. It can be assumed that graduates in CTF, Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Chemistry are particularly interested in this curriculum.

Specificity: Design, synthesis and molecular modeling of drugs, Natural substances of plant origin, Innovative pharmaceutical technologies for the optimization of drugs, Advanced methodologies in pharmaceutical analysis.

Curriculum in Pharmacology, Toxicology and Innovative Treatments:

The specific training objective of the Curriculum in Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology is to provide PhD students with the cultural background and methodological preparation necessary to successfully carry out research activities in the field of Pharmacology, Toxicology and the possible use of stem cell treatments. Appropriate agreements will be stipulated with leading international universities, to be added to the existing one with the University of Toulouse in order to establish an international network for the training of learners.

Specificity: Pharmacology and toxicology of the cardiovascular system, Pharmacology and toxicology of the nervous system, Pharmacology and toxicology of hormones and autacoids, Pharmacology and toxicology of inflammation and cell proliferation.
